How are duplicates identified when adding a new item?

When creating a new item, once you fill in the name field and click or tab to the next field, the system automatically searches for any existing items with a similar name. This is a similarity search using trigrams (combinations of 3 letters), not an exact word match, so it will work even on misspellings. If any similar items are found, or if you click on the magnifying glass icon next to the name field, then they are displayed directly beneath the name field.
